Correct me if I’m wrong, but it seems to me like you mean you have great ideas for novels you want to write but don’t have time to write them. If that’s what you mean, then here’s what I’d suggest:
If the ideas are yours, even if you forget them, when you genuinely start to write, they will all come back.
The thing about writing that people don’t seem to understand is that it’s not always something you do in your spare time. If you believe you have great ideas, then I’d advise you make time to put them on paper because you never know where they will lead you.
Writing is all about passion. Anyone can have a great idea and live and die with the idea still in their minds, but the greatest ideas are the ones that have been acted on.
Ideas are easy. It’s the execution of ideas that really separates the sheep from the goats.
-Sue Grafton
If you believe you have a great idea, make time.
Making time doesn’t mean carving out a chunk of your day. Try 5mins a day dedicated to writing. If you’re on the bus or train, or during your lunch break, or while waiting in a long queue. Just write it down as it comes to mind.
Don’t get bogged down by details. Trust me, they aren’t as important in the beginning as they will be in the end. Stories grow and mature and jotting down an idea with lots of detail limits the paths down which the storyline can go.
If you’re still worried about forgetting, try thinking about the ideas over and over again, seeing the story play out over and over again in your minds eye, you will find that the important details will remain ingrained in your memory and the trivial ones will modify themselves to suit the story as you develop it.
I wish you the best of luck in your writing.
“… And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end…”
This makes a lot of sense. It’s funny how the moment you start writing, Ideas just keep coming in. I agree with you 100%.
