Have you ever been shopping and seen something that looked sooo good on a mannequin, but when you wore it… Yeah, you realised you and the manikin aren’t the same 😩
I don’t know if guys do this but, speaking from a lady’s perspective, we could sometimes become so bugged down by ideals on how to look and what to wear. This leads us to erroneous diet plans and exercise routines we hate as we try to transform our bodies to look like the magazine and runway super models.
I believe in good health and trying to stay fit. Where I draw the line is when people aspire to be like the people in the pictures they see, despite and in-spite of their own personal beauty and health.
Let’s face it: Slim doesn’t suit everyone.
I was privileged to sit-down with a world-class top model and get some insights into how it all works.
Here are a few pointers she gave…
📌 “All the models I know are just naturally slim. That’s how their bodies are.”
She talked about her love for food and how most of the models she knows, just like herself, are naturally slim. It’s not as a result of diets and/exercise. They’re just built that way.
📌”It’s about owning it!”
It’s not about what size you wear, it’s about owing your individuality and loving your own personal look. Don’t try too hard to “fit” the standard. Just be you.
📌”Staying healthy is the goal.”
I most especially liked when she said, “you can eat burgers or pizza, there’s nothing wrong with that. Just don’t eat it everyday.”
Sound advice. It’s not what you eat, it’s how you eat that matters because the goal isn’t to be slim, the goal is to be healthy… #pizzaexpress here I come 🏃🏽♀️
📌”Even the models don’t look like the mannequins.”
🙌🏼 According to her, even the models we see aren’t as slim as the mannequins.
“… we are actual human beings and they are just poles. Nobody is really like that.”
It was very encouraging to hear these things coming from an actual model. It really helped take the pressure off.
So, for women like you and I who can only be lifted up in prayer, be encouraged. Big is beautiful too. Stay healthy, love yourself and own your style!
